Key appointments set to drive strategic business approach

Michael Privik has been named as successor to SPECTRO Analytical Instruments’ outgoing managing director Dr. Christoph Mätzig, who took over management of AMETEK’s ‘Ultra Precision Technologies’ division at the beginning of the year. Mr Privik, who has been a member of the management team since 2016, was appointed Chairman of the Management Board of the scientific instruments company on January 1st, 2022.

Born in Duisburg, Mr Privik joined SPECTRO’s customer centre in 1991 where he helped set up the X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) division and also headed the application laboratory. Moving into sales he held various positions including EMEA sales management, becoming Managing Director Global Sales & Marketing since 2016.

“In the course of my 30 years at SPECTRO, I have seen all the ups and downs. Today SPECTRO is excellently positioned - we have qualified employees, the most modern technologies and market-leading products and I would like to continue this positive development continuously. It goes without saying that the customer will continue to be the focus of our business,” said Mr Privik. “However, there are also challenges to be overcome. In particular, rising inflation and the global shortage of materials should be mentioned here. "We will react to this with suitable measures and make selective changes."

Dave Samyn, Head of the Material Analysis Division of SPECTRO's parent company AMETEK added: “I would like to extend a warm welcome to Dr. Christoph Mätzig for his outstanding work over the past five years. Building on the successful history, SPECTRO has made excellent progress under his direction. I am sure that Michael Privik, with his many years of management experience, will continue on the growth path that has been chosen and lead the company into a successful future. I am very much looking forward to further cooperation.”
