Dr Cato T. Laurencin, MD, PhD, a distinguished professor at UConn and CEO of The Cato T. Laurencin Institute for Regenerative Engineering, will deliver the i2025 Wallace H. Coulter Lecture. A pioneer in Regenerative Engineering, he has revolutionised the use of polymeric biomaterials for musculoskeletal treatments, leading to groundbreaking clinical applications. His contributions have earned him numerous prestigious honours, including the Spingarn Medal and the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, presented by President Obama. Dr Laurencin is the first surgeon ever elected to the National Academies of Medicine, Engineering, Sciences, and Inventors, solidifying his legacy as a leading engineer-physician-scientist.
In his lecture, Regenerative Engineering: The Frontier is Here, Dr Laurencin will discuss the convergence of advanced materials science, stem cell science, physics, developmental biology, and clinical translation to regenerate complex tissues and organs. For 35 years, the Laurencin Laboratories have focused on translating discoveries into real-world applications, following the theme: ‘Explore, Discover, Treat, Cure, Teach, Repeat’. The Cato T. Laurencin Institute at UConn is built on six pillars, including ‘Transformative Technologies for Humanity’ and ‘Entrepreneurship and Economic Value Creation’, driving innovations that have impacted millions worldwide.

The 2025 Short Courses will run from Saturday, 1 March to Tuesday 4 March, offering over 50 options for beginners, intermediate learners, and advanced participants.
