Sebia Supports National Pathology Week
Feb 25 2010
Sebia (UK) Ltd hosted a visit of its Camberleybased facilities by local MP Gerald Howarth on 6 November to help promote an understanding of the pathology sector by local community and government. The event was organised in support of the second National Pathology Week, an initiative started in 2008 by the Royal College of Pathology to raise awareness of the discipline and its role in the NHS. The laboratory professional associations such as the Institute of Biomedical Scientists and the Association of Clinical Biochemists support this by running local events around the country. The Voice of Industry Group at BIVDA also encourages member companies to bring their local MP’s attention to the importance of the In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) industry and its role in the UK’s health services.
Mr Howarth, a Conservative MP for Aldershot, Cannock and Burntwood saw the company’s fully-equipped training laboratory and received an insight into the application of electrophoresis in NHS clinical testing. Parent company, Sebia SA specialises in instruments and tests to aid the diagnosis and monitoring of multiple myeloma, a condition afflicting almost 3,800 people in the UK each year.
Chris Plows, General Manger of Sebia (UK) Ltd, commented: “We were happy to demonstrate our commitment to the industry and, thanks to Mr Howarth, the visit was educational and greatly enjoyed by all involved. In recent years, the IVD testing market has become increasingly buoyant and paved the way to innovation in healthcare in the UK, employing over 8,000 people in the UK alone. We share the industry’s commitment to the development of more effective and accurate diagnostic technology to aid and improve patient treatment and outcomes.”
