Pharmaceutical Innovation and Sustainability celebrated at Lab Industry Show

Lab Innovations, which returns to the NEC, Birmingham, on November 1 and 2, is to champion sustainability in lab sectors such as the pharmaceutical medical device industries. Organiser Easyfairs said that over 84 per cent of the exhibition space had already been sold despite an increase in floorplan to accommodate extra companies. Last year, 192 exhibitors and 4,213 visitors attended the show which celebrated its tenth anniversary and provided opportunities for pharmaceutical scientists to explore cutting-edge technology, stay abreast of regulatory and compliance update and find unique networking opportunities.

During 2022, Paul Vanden Branden, director of SciMed, shared, “Lab Innovations is a really important show for SciMed as we can meet all our customers in one place. It is a great opportunity to hear from customers in person, so we can fully understand their requirements and operational situations and work with them to deliver solutions that meet their needs.”

Sustainability has been an integral part of the show series, acting as host to the Sustainable Laboratory, run by Andy Evans, director of Green Light Laboratories; this theme was expanded last year to include the sustainability trail, which highlighted exhibitors such as Haier Biomedical Grenova and Labcon, leading the way on lab sustainability. Both The Sustainable Laboratory and the sustainability trail will be back this year.

Lab Innovations is also home to four free-to-attend theatre programmes – the Royal Society of Chemistry Theatre, the Insights & Innovation Theatre, the Cleanroom Hub and Live Lab. A platform for live technical demonstrations during the show, Live Lab has doubled in size for this year.

The Lab Awards has also increased in size and will take the form of a gala dinner on the evening of November 1. Held in partnership with Laboratory News, the awards celebrate the key achievements of the laboratory industry, with thirteen awards covering Best Sustainable Product, Outstanding Achievement, Diversity & Inclusion, Smart Lab of the Year and more.

One winner from 2022, Jacqueline Balian, sector head for laboratory technology at GAMBICA, reported during the event, “I’ve very much enjoyed Lab Innovations this year. The awards were an attraction for people and lots of our members entered. I was thrilled to see we had five finalists and two winners. Lots of our members come to this event and they see it as one of the key events in the calendar year. We will definitely be here next year.”

Once again, Lab Innovations will be co-located with Advanced Engineering, which is supported by key industry bodies such as the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Composites UK, Make UK, UKRI, UK Space Agency, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, GAMBICA, BARA and the Department for International Trade. This facilitates cross-industry collaboration and increased networking opportunities for both exhibitors and visitors.
