Pipettes
Pipetting solutions support bioanalytical business diversification
Dec 16 2024
Integra Biosciences' pipettes are playing a pivotal role in helping BioApp Solutions, a bioanalytical consultancy, streamline and semi-automate its liquid handling workflows. By incorporating these devices, BioApp has enhanced pipetting consistency in sample analysis and method development, ensuring more reliable and reproducible results.
Founded in 2015 in Leeds, UK, BioApp Solutions specialises in bioanalytical training and consultancy services. In 2021, the company expanded into its own clinical research organisation (CRO) lab, where it offers in-house services such as bespoke sample analysis, early-stage method development, workflow optimisation, and validation. Seeking to automate error-prone, repetitive tasks in its new lab, BioApp chose Integra’s VIAFLO 96 handheld electronic pipette with a 96-channel pipetting head, paired with 300 μl automation GRIPTIPS® pipette tips.
Mohammed Abrar, Director and Co-founder of BioApp, explained the impact on the lab’s operations: “We use the VIAFLO 96 for tasks like sample dilutions, mixing, extracting supernatants, and sample loading during liquid extraction protocols. The pipette allows us to program labour-intensive protocols easily, significantly boosting productivity. This has freed up time for more complex tasks, while also promoting mental and physical well-being by reducing the repetitive strain. The VIAFLO 96 ensures consistent liquid handling, eliminating manual errors and inter-analyst variability, leading to more reproducible results. Its affordability, compact size, functionality, and ease of use have made it a perfect choice for our lab.”
In addition to the VIAFLO 96, BioApp acquired five single- and multi-channel EVOLVE manual pipettes (ranging from 2-300 μl), paired with ECO rack GRIPTIPS, for smaller sample volumes and preliminary studies. This variety of pipettes allows flexibility while reducing the risk of cross-contamination and easing throughput challenges.
“We rely on Integra products every day,” Mohammed concluded. “Their robustness and reliability ensure we experience minimal downtime, supporting our growing analytical and method development capabilities.”
