Imaging Systems for Every Application

Mar 07 2012

With its European headquarters in Hamburg, Olympus is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of professional optical and opto-electronic digital products for research, clinical and industrial applications. From microscopes for training and routine tasks to high-end imaging system solutions in the fields of life- and materials science, there is a system for every need. This is embodied by the fully customisable BX3 systems, which can truly be ‘built by your needs’. A recent addition to the product line emphasises this even further. The IX81-ZDC2 Z-drift compensation system for automatically maintaining focus illustrates how Olympus builds systems utilising components specifically designed to solve your research challenges, whatever they are.

Complete Systems
Microscopy is an indispensable tool for modern science and technology. Today, leading-edge researchers require powerful and complex microscopy solutions to provide the level of scientific insight they require. However, it is only when a research microscope is integrated with a number of peripheral devices that processes within living cells can be accurately visualised and analysed. To this end, Olympus develops software and hardware for microscopical imaging, in which all components are optimally integrated. Olympus users also get total peace of mind with comprehensive service and support at all times.

Unique Solutions for Unique Needs
The recent release of the inverted IX81 microscope with ZDC2 Z-Drift compensation system eloquently emphasises the Olympus ethos of solving unique challenges with dedicated solutions. Ideal for long- and short-term time-lapse imaging, this next generation system ensures that your samples are always in focus, providing sharp, high quality images. With two modes, continuous and ‘one-shot’, samples are kept in focus regardless of the time-frame required by the user. The IX81 frame is highly stable and reliable, thus providing the ideal base for time lapse studies.. The brand new Z-Drift compensation system continually monitors the distance between the objective lens and the sample surface, automatically maintaining optimal focus image after image, regardless of experiment length or complexity. Such an approach provides walk-away functionality and significant peace of mind when it comes to image quality and generating insightful results.

Complex Experiments Achieved with Ease
To further increase the functionality and ease-of-use of its systems, Olympus provides the cellSens and OLYMPUS Stream software solutions. These make even the most complex imaging protocols easy to perform, providing a wide range of capabilities, from simple image acquisition to multidimensional imaging techniques, multiple image alignment, quantification and more. As an example, the IX81-ZDC2 system can be combined with cellSens to quickly and easily create a time-series of perfectly equidistant z-stack images, ideal for near-confocal quality deconvolution.
