Why you need to use certified vials
May 05 2010
Do unexplained interferences in your mass spectra send you into troubleshooting turmoil? Be more productive with your valuable time and effort, it is time to restore your confidence in your protocols with Certified Vials.
Waters set out to evaluate vial products on the market for MS suitability. We purchased vials from around the world and put them through the same protocol. We soaked vials in various solvent combinations, infused solvent from the source container into a MS in scan mode, followed by the solvent content from the soaked vials. The results were a surprise; many of the vials were not suitable for MS usage. With the results in hand, we started to evaluate materials individually to come up with the best combination products for MS applications. We studied the processes to process glass and septum to improve and control the MS cleanliness of product. This work has resulted in LCMS Certified Vials from Waters.
Every lot of Waters LCMS Certified Vials is tested by MS for cleanliness. Each pack of vials includes a certificate of analysis showing the reference scan and the scan from the soaked vials. Specifications are set based on the total ion count of the vial relative to the reference, plus there is a signal to noise ratio specification to capture polymer if present in the scan.
