New Biotech Application for Adapted Mixer Mill

Dec 20 2005

SPEX CertiPrep Ltd 8000M Mixer/Mill has been adapted to include a clamp that holds deep well titer plates. It features a variable-range electronic timer, a safety interlock.

The titer plates or vials are loaded with samples and grinding media and then the whole titer plate is clamped by the padded vice. The samples are then shaken at high speed in a three dimensional figure-of-eight motion ensuring a homogeneous mixing and milling operation. As an alternative to the Spex Sample Prep Geno/Grinder the adapted mill is ideal for high throughput applications for extraction of DNA & RNA from plant and animal tissues.

Described as a high-energy ball mill or shaker mill, the 8000M is based on the SPEX CertiPrep 8000M Mixer/Mill, which has been in continuous production for nearly forty years and is one of the most successful laboratory mill designs in history.
