LabVantage LIMS Grants External Customer Self-Service with All-New Portal

Nov 02 2021

LabVantage Solutions, the leading provider of laboratory informatics solutions and services, introduced an all-new self-service portal into its LabVantage LIMS platform for external customers to access information without compromising the laboratory’s data security.

Introduced with LabVantage LIMS v8.7, the portal delivers consistent and complete submission-of-work requests and improves self-supportability for customers outside the lab and LIMS environment. Organisations with LabVantage LIMS can now extend appropriate electronic access to external customers via the LabVantage Portal, eschewing manual requests for tests and other services while protecting their valuable and sensitive data.

“LabVantage LIMS, as an enterprise solution, is usually deployed for internal use within a customer's highly secure network,” said Mikael Hagstroem, CEO at LabVantage Solutions. “Allowing external clients to request laboratory testing or place orders for test kits wasn’t a simple task previously, and typically meant dealing with manual processes and paperwork. The LabVantage Portal was developed as an externally facing platform to overcome these challenges and make it easy to implement in a manner that is both secure and efficient.”

While it eliminates manual requests via phone, fax, email and even surface mail, LabVantage Portal maintains LIMS security. External direct access to the LIMS – a violation of GxP guidelines – risks data security and privacy violations. Therefore, LabVantage completely segregates functions so that, while internal and external users have access to the same Portal data, external Portal users have no access to the rest of the LIMS.

Offering Portal for external clients of the lab ensures faster and more complete client-submitted requests and direct access to more meaningful information and data. Customers have a choice of “apps” to deliver Portal functions, such as Portal account management, request submissions, status tracking, test-results viewing, and requests for test kits.

In addition to LabVantage Portal, the 8.7 release aims to improve the user experience with a new, next-generation cockpit-style user interface that allows users to navigate safely, efficiently, and with little or no training. Lab administrator self-support, meanwhile, leverages existing LabVantage knowledge of functions, configuration tools, and other skills.

The new user interface uses ReactJS technology, which makes page updates much faster for a better user experience. Plans are to leverage this technology in future versions of LabVantage LIMS, for on-premise, Cloud-hosted, and SaaS deployments.
