Customer Knowledge Collected to Improve Pipetting Aid
Jan 19 2010
Integra has announced the completion of an international customer survey gauging current opinion as to the essential characteristics of a high quality pipetting aid.
Knowledge of customer needs is key to development of successful products. “We want to offer the best products on the market, so we decided to find out which pipettor features really matter by directly asking customers who had recently purchased a PIPETBOY”, said Fabrizio Baumann, Product Manager at Integra.
“The survey generated a lot of interesting feedback“, continued Mr Baumann. “We noted a continuous theme was that users need a sturdy and reliable pipettor with sufficient battery charge.” One insight gained from the survey has already been used by Integra to further develop their popular PIPETBOY pipettor range. Several respondents indicated that their workflow would be enhanced if you could ‘park’ the pipettor with inserted pipette. As a consequence Integra has introduced a PIPETBOY stand allowing the user to do precisely this.
Participation in the research survey was high – the iPod touch prize draw was won by Miss Krishnappa, who works at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in the Proteomic Mass Spectrometry Team (Cambridge, UK). Miss Krishnappa commented: “It’s a good idea to ask our opinion about equipment we are using every day in the lab because as professionals we can effectively contribute to improvements”. She added: “The PIPETBOY is a good pipettor that I can recommend and I expect that it will be even better in future.”
The PIPETBOY can be used with plastic or glass pipettes with volumes of 1-100ml. Finely regulating your pipetting is simply achieved by applying varying finger pressure to the operating buttons and by adjusting the pump speed. The PIPETBOY is powered by a high performance NiMH battery that alerts you when it needs recharging. To avoid contamination from accidentally aspirated liquids the PIPETBOY is protected by a filter. The PIPETBOY comes in several different colours that you can assign to a particular application, user etc. thereby avoiding mix-ups.
