New Expanding Storage Box Provides Innovative Solution for Cryogenic Samples
May 02 2013
Heathrow Scientific, a leading manufacturer of lab supplies and instruments, introduced its new Work2Store™ expanding storage box at the 2013 Pittsburgh Conference in Philadelphia, PA.
The Work2Store™ box is an innovative solution for more efficient handling and storage of cryogenic samples. It features a patent-pending open/close mechanism that allows the rack to be expanded during use. The resulting space between tube rows provides additional room for manipulation of samples, eliminating the need for researchers to transfer microcentrifuge tubes and cryogenic vials from storage racks to their working area and back.
“As a former lab tech, I am very aware of how much time in a laboratory is spent simply getting samples ready for testing,” said Tim Driscoll, Product Manager for the Work2Store™ rack. “This rack was designed to give laboratory scientists enough working room to open flip top tubes and titrate into samples without having to move dozens of tubes to the benchtop and then move those same tubes back again to a storage rack once work is complete.”
The rack collapses down to a 5 ¼“ x 5 ¼“ (133 x 133mm) size and is specifically designed to fit standard 2“ (52mm) freezer racking. When open, the rack extends a full foot (310 mm) in width. A cryogenic vial lock in each well facilitates one-handed tube opening. A clear lid holds the rack together during transport and storage.
“We have received a very enthusiastic response to this product, both because it solves a real problem and because there’s just nothing else like it on the market,” said Jamie Devin, Managing Director for Heathrow Scientific. “Customers immediately see the value of having just one rack for both bench-top work and freezer storage.”
