GOOD DESIGN® Award 2016 for DURAN® TILT

Feb 01 2017

The innovative laboratory bottle system for cell culture media DURAN® TILT receives the world’s most recognised GOOD DESIGN® Award.

The DURAN® TILT media bottle system receives one of the oldest and most prestigious industrial design award in the world, the 'GOOD DESIGN® Award'. The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies award the prize annually, and chose from over 900 international competitors. In the 'Medical' products category, DURAN® TILT is one of the 33 winners.

“We are honored to receive such a prestigious design award. One that demonstrates our commitment to
developing new, innovative laboratory products”, commented Michael Merz, Managing Director Duran
Group GmbH. DURAN® TILT convinced the jury with its distinctive features that make work much easier for researchers in the laboratory. The glass media bottle can be placed in both an upright and a 45 degree tilted position. This is important for comfortable pipetting, but also for safe filter sterilisation. Work with cell cultures under sterile conditions can be awkward and timeconsuming due to the limited freedom of movement in the cell culture hoods. DURAN® TILT also facilitates workflows by having volume graduations on both sides, allowing both left and right handed users to comfortably use the bottle. The jury honored DURAN® TILT for its application oriented and elegant shape.

The GOOD DESIGN® Award has been awarded since 1950, and is regarded as the world’s most prestigious industrial design award. The award was originally founded by the famous architects: Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr.
