Free up Freezer Space and Safeguard Shipping of Nucleic Acids
Jan 29 2014
Biomatrica, develops innovative tools to collect, transport and store biological samples and assays at room temperature. Their exciting product range is now distributed in the UK by Cambio.
Biomatrica’s room temperature stabilisation technology will revolutionise current sample storage and shipping practices that rely exclusively on energy-consuming cold storage environments. The company, based in California, US, aims to provide scientists and clinicians with simple, reliable and environmentally sustainable tools to significantly reduce storage and shipping costs as well as provide improved security to biological storage collections susceptible to freezer malfunction.
The product range includes a number of pre-analytics designed to preserve biological samples prior to DNA or RNA isolation and analysis. The RNAgard®TM and DNAgard® products preserve RNA in blood, and DNA in saliva and tissue samples, respectively, at room temperature for validated time periods of weeks to years.
Similarly, Biomatrica’s DNAstable® and RNAstable® products have been developed for the multi-year stabilisation, storage and shipment of purified DNA or RNA at room temperature. Samples preserved in this way remain compatible with downstream applications such as PCR, sequencing and microarrays and require no purification prior to use. A recent study by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) concluded that DNAstable protects DNA samples as effectively as freezing at −20°C.
Once you have the samples, Biomatrica offers several enhancers to improve assay performance for difficult samples. PCRboost® is simple to use and enhances the amplification of degraded and low quality DNA samples with minimal optimisation. Meanwhile STRboost® is a novel reagent specifically formulated to enhance multiplex PCR amplification reactions used for human identification applications. Finally RNAconcentratorTM lets you concentrate dilute, aqueous RNA samples to volumes as low as 10 µl. Recovered samples can be used directly in downstream applications such as quantitative real-time PCR or cDNA synthesis without the need for further purification.
These innovative products fit perfectly with Cambio’s commitment to excellence in molecular biology and they are delighted to offer free samples to molecular biologists interested in seeing Biomatrica’s technology in action.
