Value and Versatility of TLC-MS Equipment
Feb 23 2011
Camag’s TLC-MS has once again proved its value and versatility in the laboratory. (HP)TLC is widely applied by chemists as a rapid and reliable method to follow reaction processes, this being especially true for cases when compounds remain on the column, due to high polarity or weak solubility, or when analyte detection is poor (no chromophore). In such cases, the new Camag TLC-MS Interface is ideal for structural analysis.
In a revolutionary study carried out by Sanofi-Aventis R&D, the Lead Generation to Candidate Realisation (LGCR) platform identified small molecule leads and progressed them up to realisation. DAD failed to detect many organic structures and so the (HP)TLC-DAD-MS configuration was improved by substituting the DAD with an Evaporating Light Scattering Detector (ELSD).
ELSD confirmed more reliably the elution of compounds including those that are not UV/Vis-active, allowing the user to vary the MS ionisation conditions to maximise detection and structural information. This (HP)TLC-ELSD-MS coupling resulted in automised, fast and dependable data, confirming the (HP)TLC-MS as an advanced analytical tool.
