Advanced Selectivity Phases for Powerful UHPLC and HPLC Method Development
Nov 04 2014
Advanced Chromatography Technologies’ range of Advanced Selectivity phases offers chromatographers an extremely powerful tool for UHPLC and HPLC method development. These phases incorporate the latest developments in LC stationary phase design to provide chromatographers with more choices for alternative selectivity but without compromising stability or robustness.
ACE Advanced Selectivity phases are engineered to have complementary, yet differing mechanisms of interaction with your challenging analyte samples and all phases are fully scalable, highly reproducible and give excellent peak shape. Together they assist chromatographers to achieve superior resolution of peak pairs with a powerful array of separation mechanisms. All phases are available in UHPLC and HPLC formats and particle sizes of 2, 3, 5 and 10µm. ACE Advanced Selectivity phases include ACE C18, C18-AR, C18-PFP, C18-Amide, CN-ES and SuperC18.
ACE C18 is the optimum and most versatile starting point for most method development activities. It offers ultra-inert silica for superior peak shape and guaranteed batch-to-batch and column-to-column reproducibility. ACE C18 provides hydrophobic interactions and some shape selectivity for general reversed-phase applications and analytes, including those differing in hydrophobicity and various charged and uncharged acids and bases.
ACE C18-AR combines the hydrophobic characteristics of a C18 phase with the enhanced aromatic selectivity of a phenyl phase, allowing the benefits of both interactions to be fully exploited. The phase also exhibits ultra low bleed to ensure LC/MS compatibility and demonstrates excellent temperature and pH stability. Additionally, ACE C18-AR is suitable for use in highly aqueous (up to 100%) mobile phases to enable the retention and separation of polar compounds. It is useful for analytes with electron withdrawing and delocalised systems such as nitro groups, ketones, esters, acids and aromatic compounds.
ACE C18-PFP combines the hydrophobic characteristics of a C18 phase with the alternative selectivity offered by a pentafluorophenyl phase, providing pi-pi, dipole-dipole, hydrophobic and shape selectivity mechanisms. This phase is stable in 100% aqueous mobile phase conditions, exhibits ultra low bleed to ensure LC/MS compatibility and demonstrates excellent temperature and pH stability. ACE C18-PFP is ideal for halogenated analytes and analytes with electron donating groups such as phenols, aromatics, ethers and amines and is additionally useful for regioisomers.
ACE C18-Amide is a uniquely designed stationary phase offering improved retention of polar compounds, enhanced phenolic resolution and alternative selectivity to C18 bonded columns. The special design of the ACE C18-Amide ligand incorporates an extended alkyl chain spacer between the silica surface and amide polar group, which gives extra phase stability in eluents of pH 2 - pH 8. The longer C18 tail of the ligand increases the hydrophobic mechanism of interaction compared to phases with shorter (C14 - C16) tail groups. ACE C18-Amide offers low bleed for UV and LC/MS compatibility and can be used in 100% aqueous mobile phase conditions. This phase is recommended for polar to mid-polar analytes.
ACE CN-ES combines CN polar selectivity with enhanced hydrophobicity, enabling the benefits of both interactions to be fully exploited. Extra phase stability and increased column lifetime are provided by an extended alkyl chain spacer between the silica surface and cyano group. ACE CN-ES is suitable for both reversed-phase and normal-phase separations and can be used in 100% aqueous mobile phase conditions. This phase is also recommended for polar to mid-polar analytes with alternative selectivity to the C18-Amide.
ACE SuperC18 columns can be used in all instances where C18 columns would be used but offer improved inertness and excellent stability across an extended pH range (pH 1.5 to 11.5). ACE SuperC18 columns are designed for use with LC/MS compatible buffers and offer ultra low bleed for improved LC/MS compatibility. They can be used with both MeOH and MeCN mobile phases and offer rapid column equilibration without memory effects.
The full range of ACE ultra-inert HPLC and UHPLC columns also includes C8, C4, C18-HL, Phenyl, Cyano, AQ and Silica phases along with five 300Å wide pore phases (C18, C8, C4, CN and Phenyl) and ACE UltraCore solid-core (superficially porous) particle columns with 2.5µm and 5µm SuperC18 or SuperPhenylHexyl chemistries.
