New Maldi Solutions with Imagequest Software for Tissue Imaging

Thermo Fisher Scientific introduces a new, sensitive tissue-imaging platform, combining its MALDI LTQ XL mass spectrometer with ImageQuest software. In addition, the award-winning LTQ Orbitrap hybrid series of mass spectrometers is now available with electron transfer dissociation (ETD) and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) capabilities.

The addition of MALDI (matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization) to the LTQ XL linear ion trap provides information-rich spectra that are essential for the analysis of digested proteins, peptides and post-translational modifications (PTMs). This tissue-imaging solution provides researchers with unparalleled sensitivity, unmatched MSn spectral quality of linear ion trap technology and faster sample analysis, compared with the standard practice of homogenizing and extracting from tissue.

For small molecule applications, the Thermo Scientific MALDI LTQ XL with ImageQuest software offers a complete package for the acquisition and presentation of MS images directly from tissue samples, creating two-dimensional and three-dimensional maps of analyzed tissue for the optimal display of data. Compounds can now be detected, identified, and their distribution determined - all in a single analysis, saving time while increasing the level of knowledge of the biological system.
The LTQ Orbitrap XL ETD is the only ETD instrument with both high resolution and accurate mass, enabling definitive protein characterization during mass spectrometry (MS). The new MALDI LTQ Orbitrap series simplifies the analysis of whole tissue, biological and polymer samples by eliminating sample preparation.
