Do you need vacuum components, pumps, expertise?

A new event for vacuum technologies, strongly supported by the vacuum supply community will open its doors for the first time on 3 November at The International Centre in Telford.
Vacuum Expo event website: www.vacuum-expo.com
Vacuum technologies are in great demand in a wide variety of industries, from rough vacuum for use in the food and process industries, across HV and UHV applications for electron microscopes and analytical equipment, to XHV (extreme high vacuum) used in particle accelerators and in the future at the proposed HiPER laser fusion facility at Rutherford.
Vacuum systems facilitate research in the various disciplines where the expression “less is more” has never been more appropriately used. For materials scientists researching thin film coatings the exhibition is supported by a new technical programme including: Innovations in Vacuum Deposited Functional Metal Oxide Coatings which features over 18 papers and brings many key technologists to the event. The ‘Key note’ speaker, Dr Zoe Barber of Cambridge University will give a talk on ‘The Exploitation of Functional Oxides for Device Applications’. Amongst the papers at the conference, there will be talks on conductive coatings for solar cells, transparent coatings for microelectronics, optical thin films and a selection on techniques for thin film deposition. Talk amongst the vacuum system companies at the exhibition will no doubt include the topical subject of low temperature deposition on flexible substrates and plastics.
An educational and training opportunity exists on the second day of the event within the free Industry Programme as the Institute of Physics Vacuum Group and the RGA Users Group have joined forces to offer a walk-in training opportunity “Leak Detection & RGA – Essential tools for effective control of vacuum systems”. Leaks assume great importance when they influence the performance - or safety of a system. The aim of leak testing is to ensure the reliability of systems and to prevent failure. This meeting is sure to be of interest to anyone who owns a leak detector but does not really know how best to use it, or to analyse the data it provides. If you run a vacuum system then you should be interested!
Amongst the exhibitors Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum will be showing for the first time in Europe its new Dryvac dry screw vacuum pump, VG Scienta will be demonstrating 3D computer-controlled cryo-manipulator and Chell will be introducing their range of custom build vacuum chambers. There will be just about every vacuum component imaginable on show from the 25 plus exhibitors.
Many companies have remembered that vacuum was a significant part of the “Physics World” exhibition which was held in Telford, over 15 years ago. As a venue it is held in high regard being easy to get to and comes with free parking for people visiting the exhibition.
Simon Mansbridge of VAT Vacuum comments: “This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the creation of a new conference and exhibition dedicated to vacuum technology in the UK. Bringing together representatives from industry, R&D, academia and the key suppliers in the industry will be a valuable platform for exchanging information and establishing new links and contacts for all. In addition, the modern facilities combined with the central location, make Telford the ideal location.”
A co-located event alongside Vacuum Expo is Photonex10 which is a key event for spectroscopy technology in the UK. Laser technology is strongly featured in this event and one particularly interesting exhibitor is the HiPER project. HiPER is a planned European High Power Laser Energy Research facility dedicated to demonstrating the feasibility of laser driven fusion as a future energy source.
