Neurosurgery Device Gaining Recognition
Sep 22 2010
Vycor Medical, Inc, a medical device company that designs, develops and markets next generation neurosurgery devices is confident that its ViewSite Brain Access System (VBAS) medical retraction instrument is advancing its market share, describing the retractor as a "BioTech Breakthrough" with the potential to impact several hundreds of thousands of patients and throngs of surgeons and medical
facilities worldwide.
"Most are shocked to learn that neurosurgical retraction technology has not significantly changed in nearly a century," said Heather N. Vinas, president of Vycor Medical, Inc. “Where other forms of diagnostic and operative procedures have evolved by leaps and bounds, this crucial area of surgery has remained virtually unchanged to the detriment of patients, physicians and surgical facilities, alike. Vycor has single-handedly changed all that with a neurotech advancement that’s also fiscally sound."
VBAS is said to offer a less invasive way to access surgical locations and perform critical procedures with minimal damage to surrounding brain tissue, thus minimising collateral trauma and accelerating
post-operative recovery. Given the estimated 600,000 brain surgeries conducted annually around the globe, this is a very significant and sizeable problem that ViewSite is directly - and aggressively – addressing, the company claimed.
Michael W. Weaver, MD Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery a Temple University noted: "The ViewSite Brain Access System provides a minimally traumatic surgical corridor to deep seated brain tumours, resulting in effective and efficient tumor removal with minimal morbidity. I have been extremely pleased with the results of the surgeries I have performed with the ViewSite.”
