Two Special Symposia at Pittcon 2008

The Pittsburgh Conference (Pittcon) announces the Society of Applied Spectroscopy (SAS) will host two special symposia added to the Pittcon 2008 Technical Program. One symposium will focus on atomic spectroscopy and the other on vibrational spectroscopy.

50 Years of SAS: Looking to the Future with Atomic Spectroscopy Symposium.
The focus of this session will be the role of atomic spectroscopy to fulfill expectations and needs of the laboratory in the years to come. Leading researchers in the field have been invited to provide their insight into developments taking place in this field, the evolution of instrumentation, and the impact upon the analytical laboratory.

Invited Speakers include:
Gary M. Hieftje, Distinguished Professor, Indiana University; Robert and Marjorie Mann Chair, Chemistry Department
Paul B. Farnsworth, Professor and Chair Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Brigham Young University
M. Bonner Denton, Professor of Chemistry, Professor of Geochemistry, University of Arizona
J.A.C, Broekaert, Professor, University of Hamburg, Germany
James A. Holcombe, Professor, University of Texas at Austin

50 Years of SAS: Looking to the Future with Vibrational Spectroscopy Symposium.
This symposium will consider basic and applied research in infrared and Raman spectrometry. Of particular note is that the session will include speakers from academia, industry, and government.

Invited Speakers include:
Bruce Chase, Senior Research Fellow Corporate Center for Analytical Sciences, E. I. DuPont
Peter Griffiths, Professor University of Idaho
Ira Levin, Deputy Director Division of Intramural Research, Chief Molecular and Biophysics Section Laboratory of Chemical Physics, NIDDK, National Institutes of Health
Curt Marcott, Research Fellow, Procter & Gamble
Neil Everall, Business Research Associate, Intertek

The Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh, one of the sponsoring societies of Pittcon, is the local Pittsburgh chapter of the SAS. Pittcon 2008 will be held March 1 7, 2008, in New Orleans at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. For more information on the Technical Program, visit the Pittcon website.
