May 18 2012
Owen Mumford, one of the UK’s largest manufacturers of medical devices, including products for diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of Diabetes has opened its doors for business in China. Jim Zhang, who has been appointed General Manager, will oversee operations at the new Shanghai sales office. After starting his professional life as a Thoracic surgeon Jim’s current remit is to develop an Owen Mumford branded business across China to meet growing demand for medical devices and diagnostic supplies. The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates there are 92 million diabetics and 150 million pre-diabetics in China alone (1) and the number of diabetics in China is predicted to increase to a staggering 130 million by 2030 according to the International Diabetes Federation. (2)
Endorsing such concerns, Jim Zhang said: “We have started to see a real increase in diabetes in China and as Owen Mumford’s main focus is for the treatment of this disease, we are perfectly positioned to help. Within a decade China is set to become one of the world’s largest medical device markets and this is therefore an excellent time to build our brand, reputation, relationships and business.”
