Gannochy Trust Innovation Award – Royal Society of Edinburgh

Apr 28 2010

A top award for individual achievement in innovation in Scotland, The Gannochy Trust Innovation Award of The Royal Society of Edinburgh will be open until May. Carrying a cash prize of £50,000, it is awarded annually to a young innovator whose work has the potential to improve Scotland’s social and economic well-being; this award is targeted at a new generation aged 45 or under.

Established in partnership between The Gannochy Trust and The Royal Society of Edinburgh, the purpose of the award is to encourage younger people to pursue careers in fields of research which promote Scotland’s inventiveness internationally, and to recognise outstanding individual achievement which contributes to the common good of Scotland.

This prestigious award also seeks to promote Scotland’s research and development capability in new technologies and areas of social importance. The 2010 call will be made to an individual and not to a company, although award winners may be carrying out their work in, or in collaboration with, Scottish-based small to medium-sized enterprises. 2008 winner was Dr Colin Urquhart, Chief Executive Officer of Glasgow-based Dimensional Imaging Ltd whose imaging innovation could transform surgery, facial recognition & fun.
