Award Seeks to Raise Profile of Research Quality

The Einstein Foundation Berlin has announced an international award to provide publicity for researchers and institutions seeking to improve the quality of their Research. Evidence-based studies and open access to new findings are more important than ever, as the COVID-19 pandemic has once again shown. Against this background, the Einstein Foundation has launched the €500,000 Einstein Foundation Award for Promoting Quality in Research the first prize to recognise outstanding efforts that enhance the rigor, reliability, robustness and transparency of work undertaken. The award is funded by the Damp Stiftung, with Nature Research supporting the call for applications and helping to establish the award. The first awardees will be announced in November 2021 in Berlin.
The Einstein Foundation will honour successful candidates in the following three categories:
I Individuals: Individual researchers or small teams of collaborating researchers can be nominated. The laureate will be awarded €200,000.00.
II Institutions: Governmental and non-governmental organisations, institutions, or other entities can apply or be nominated. The award-winning organisation or institution will receive €200,000.00. Successful governmental organisations or institutions will not receive any funds in addition to the award itself.
III Early Career Researchers: Early career researchers or small teams of collaborating researchers can submit a project proposal that seeks to foster research quality and value for an award of €100,000.00.
The award is open to any researcher or group of researchers, organisations, or institutions involved in science and research, education and scholarship.
To be eligible for the early career award, candidates must hold a doctorate or have equivalent research experience and should have been an independent researcher for no longer than five years.
Nominations and applications must be submitted online; the deadline for submissions is March 31, 2021 (10:00 pm CET).
The awardees will be announced in autumn 2021.
