Jul 07 2014
Parvovirus B19 is a small non-enveloped DNA virus. It is the cause of ‘fifth disease’ so named for being one of the 5 childhood diseases at the time to cause a rash.
It’s transmission is via aerosols and infection is usually self limiting. 50% of all adults exhibit a seropositive history for this virus. However infection during pregnancy can cause complications. It can also cause anaemia in individuals who have AIDS.
ViroStat has released a new mouse monoclonal antibody to this virus. It is specific to the VP2 viral capsid protein and functions well in ELISA and IFA.
