Ultrasonic Flowmeter Offers ASCII Flow Streaming

Sep 14 2023

Titan, a leading liquid flow meter specialist, has continuously advanced its ultrasonic technology, resulting in a range of ultrasonic flow meters and numerous patents encompassing signal processing techniques and innovative mechanical design. The Atrato® series, Titan's most versatile ultrasonic inline flow meters, now offers ASCII flow streaming via USB, enhancing its adaptability for specific applications, alongside its existing data logging and diagnostic capabilities.

The Atrato® flow meters, owing to their sophisticated ultrasonic technology and proprietary embedded signal processing software, ensure precise measurement of both viscous and non-viscous liquids. This versatility is essential for a wide range of applications.

Neil Hannay, Senior R&D Engineer at Titan Enterprises, highlights the significance of the USB connectivity: “The device’s USB connection gives the Atrato® flowmeter computer interface capability, enabling the user to directly monitor the flow rate being measured and alter the operating parameters using a laptop PC. ASCII flow streaming capability has been a logical next step in the advancement of these ultrasonic flowmeters.”

The addition of ASCII flow streaming enables the real-time output of liquid flow data in human-readable text form (ASCII encoded) at a rate of 10-20 times per second. This data stream can be readily interpreted and processed by software running on the USB host.

The advantages of ASCII streaming are threefold: Flow measurements are directly streamed to the PC over the USB connection; No additional pulse counting or analogue interface devices are necessary; Flow measurements can be seamlessly integrated into the user's software system, such as LabVIEW.

Titan's Atrato® ultrasonic flow meters find applications in low flow scenarios, precision process control, laboratory processes, and chemical dosing. They are increasingly valuable in petrochemical processes, with approximately 40% of ultrasonic flow meter sales attributed to the oil & gas industry, refining, and chemicals.

Utilising Titan's patented 'time-of-flight' ultrasonic technology, Atrato® flow meters offer unmatched accuracy across a flow range spanning from 2 ml/minute to 20 litres/minute. With a non-intrusive design, robust electronics, and Titan's unique algorithms, the Atrato® sets the benchmark for signal processing flow measurement systems, boasting a maintenance-free, long-lasting, and repeatable solution.
