New liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry innovations to advance science

Nov 09 2021

Thermo Fisher Scientific is empowering scientists to drive scientific breakthroughs with the introduction of new liquid chromatography and next-generation mass spectrometry instruments, workflows, and software.

The new Thermo Scientific Vanquish Neo UHPLC System and Thermo Scientific PepMap Neo Columns will help users overcome limitations of existing low-flow LC instruments. Principal investigators, laboratories, and proteomics researchers in academia, biopharma and contract research organisations can now benefit from this all-in-one nano-, capillary- and micro-flow liquid chromatography (LC) system. The new solution is designed for high sensitivity LC-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) applications, technical capabilities and seamless integration with Thermo Scientific PepMap Neo Columns and Thermo Scientific mass-spectrometry portfolio.

The Thermo Scientific TSQ Plus triple quadrupole mass spectrometer (MS) portfolio increases workflow throughput through superior data acquisition and polarity switching speeds. The improved low-mass product ion transmission efficiency enhances sensitivity for key target applications. The new portfolio, which consists of the TSQ Altis Plus, TSQ Quantis Plus and TSQ Fortis Plus MS, can be used across a range of applications, from targeted quantitation to cutting-edge research. Intuitive mass calibration routines and method optimisation, in combination with market-leading chromatography and data processing software solutions, offers improved ease of use to address future analytical challenges.

The Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Exploris MX mass detector allows biopharmaceutical laboratories to easily implement multi-attribute method (MAM), and perform intact analysis of monoclonal antibodies, oligonucleotide mass determination and peptide mapping.

To simplify the transition of biotherapeutics from development to manufacturing, the new system enables QC customers to use the same method established earlier in a molecule's journey to commercialisation, accelerating the biopharmaceutical pipeline. For further efficiency gains, laboratories can benefit from reduced downtime and maintenance, as well as seamless method transfers. The new system offers superior data quality and, therefore, high-confidence results, even for users with limited mass spectrometric experience.

The Thermo Scientific MAM 2.0 workflow streamlines biopharmaceutical characterisation, process monitoring and release testing by replacing multiple traditional assays with one comprehensive analysis, delivering insights on multiple critical product quality attributes.

To remove the bottlenecks often seen by organisations moving therapeutics from development to manufacturing, the new workflow enables the use of the same platform throughout the entire process, ultimately creating an end-to-end solution allowing for the seamless transfer of data and knowledge across teams and departments.
