Advanced absorbance reader for endotoxin and pyrogen testing
Jan 23 2024
The Nebula® Absorbance Reader from Lonza is the latest addition to its lineup of optimised instruments designed for streamlined endotoxin and pyrogen testing.
Pharmaceutical quality control (QC) laboratories globally rely on traditional absorbance-based Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) and Tachypleus amebocyte lysate (TAL) assays to ensure the safety of raw materials, in-process samples, and manufactured products. The Nebula® Absorbance Reader emerges as a technologically advanced, high-performance replacement for the industry-standard ELx808™ Absorbance Microplate Reader, ensuring continuity in current pyrogen and endotoxin testing programs.
Similar to the Nebula® Multimode Reader, the Nebula® Absorbance Reader is optimised to work seamlessly with Lonza reagents, specifically designed for Lonza’s absorbance-based endotoxin assays, including the Lonza PYROGENT® 5000 Turbidimetric and Kinetic-QCL® Chromogenic Endotoxin Assays. It also supports the readout for monocyte activation tests (MAT) like Lonza’s PyroCell® MAT System.
The Nebula® Absorbance Reader features high-performance optics and monochromator-based wavelength selection, ensuring precise and accurate measurements of endotoxin levels. Its compact design minimises laboratory space requirements, allowing for enhanced workflow flexibility.
Fully integrated with Lonza’s WinKQCL® Endotoxin Detection and Analysis Software (v6.4), the Nebula® Absorbance Reader meets the latest data integrity requirements. This integration reduces training burdens, as existing WinKQCL® Software users can seamlessly transition to using the new reader without learning new software. The reader shares a similar design and build with the Nebula® Multimode Reader, simplifying system maintenance through the use of the same user manual, service tools, and qualification procedures.
Orla Cloak, Vice President, Head of Bioprocessing at Lonza, stated: “The Nebula® Absorbance Reader provides optimal functionality, delivering optimised results for our customers. QC teams can confidently continue their endotoxin workflows with this thoroughly tested absorbance reader, specifically fine-tuned for Lonza reagents and seamlessly integrated with our WinKQCL® Software. This launch ensures that customers can maintain their endotoxin workflows smoothly, benefitting from enhanced testing functionality.”
