Use of Fibre-Optic Technologies in Biotechnology
Mar 08 2010
Hellma South Asia concluded its participation in the second India Lab Expo at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi in December 2010 with positive feedback and garnering the Best Booth Design. There was a huge turnout at the booth with most interest in our fibre-optics products: the TrayCell and fibre-optic immersion probes.
The biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries are two of the fastest growing knowledge-based sectors in India. TrayCell is a fibre-optic accessory that enables a conventional spectrophotometer to be converted into a one-drop analysis machine. This is a highly sought after methodology in the life science arena especially when researchers are dealing with precious samples like nucleic acids and protein samples. Most of the interests for TrayCell came from scientists from universities as well as instrument manufacturers who would like to incorporate this unique accessory to their machine.
There were many enquiries on fibre-optic systems from the pharmaceutical community. This technology allows in-situ online measurement whereby valuable process data can be collected and monitored. To be packaged with spectrophotometers, our fibre-optic systems are well known for its workmanship and reliability in producing qualitative and quantitative results in the plants. They are incorporated into Process Analytical Technology (PAT) and allow pharmaceutical companies to optimise their yields, minimise rejects, reducing over-processing and etc.
India is indeed an emerging and potential market for the latest technologies like TrayCell and fibre-optic systems. With the participation at the India Lab Expo, more exciting projects will be lined up for the South Asian countries.
