Personal Solvent Evaporator Offers Optimised Stored Methods

Mar 03 2010

Genevac Ltd has announced the launch of a new third-generation version of its popular EZ-2 personal solvent evaporator. Using advanced evaporation science, it has been designed specifically for productive, sample-safe solvent removal, be that concentration of samples, or complete drying.

Capability to input up to 10 stored methods now allows users to benefit from Genevac’s wealth of experience in developing optimised protocols for a wealth of applications including environmental test methods, removal of very low boiling point solvents and degassing of aqueous ammonia or hydrochloric acid solutions.

To enable all users to achieve excellent results every time, the new compact EZ-2 has been made easier to use than a conventional rotary evaporator. In addition to accommodating many more sample formats, it can operate entirely unattended. Simply set the temperature, select the solvent type and press Start.

The EZ-2 is fitted with an enhanced version of Genevac’s revolutionary SpeedTrap. This highly chemically resistant cold trap is designed to condense solvents, in order to protect the environment, and help to speed evaporation. The SpeedTrap runs at -50ºC to enable it to catch the most volatile solvents. However, it does not freeze the condensed solvent, even when working with water. Solvents collect in the insulated, plastic coated glass vessel, enabling the user to check the progress of evaporation and determine when the trap should be emptied. The glass vessel is removed by a quarter turn, allowing the solvent to be poured directly into the waste container. Replace the vessel with a quarter turn, and the EZ-2 is ready to run again. Incorporating state-of-the-art evaporation technology the EZ-2 is able to remove solvents in typically half the time of traditional evaporator designs.

Requiring no peripherals for operation the compact EZ-2 fits neatly onto a laboratory bench or into a fume hood. All key components on the robust and reliable system are user serviceable ensuring low cost of ownership.
