Electrothermal’s Omni reaction stations offer enhanced performance
May 21 2015
Tests working with Electrothermal’s Omni reaction stations, conducted by researchers in the School of chemistry at Cardiff University in Wales, have shown the instrument’s enhanced performance compared to other available systems. Energy consumption and thermal transfer were both measured during the course of testing, and illustrated the station’s low energy usage and tight temperature control.
During testing, the reaction station was set to 65?C at 800rpm and monitored for 24 hours. It took just 30 minutes to heat up to the required temperature. Once achieved, there was little variation between vial temperature and sensor temperature, demonstrating efficient rates of thermal transfer between the plate and the sample.
When energy consumption over the 24-hour period was measured, the Omni reaction station’s energy usage of 1.5 Kwh was less than half the 3.6 Kwh used by another station tested.
“The Omni reaction station is a very nice piece of kit to work with,” commented Scott Board, PhD student in the catalysis group at Cardiff University. “It outperforms our previous equipment both in terms of energy usage and the thermal ability of the machine, and also makes day to day use much more efficient. The use of the condensing block at the top really clears up the workstation, which has the potential to become quite cluttered when multiple reactions are taking place.”
Omni reaction stations are designed with ease-of-use in mind, and combine accurate heating and stirring functions with low energy consumption. The stations can run multiple procedures simultaneously, making them ideal for parallel synthesis reactions.
