New Technology Enhances the Effectiveness of CE/MS
Apr 06 2013
The combination of capillary electrophoresis with mass spectrometry (CE/MS) is very attractive as an orthogonal alternative to HPLC/MS because it can separate both small and highly polar or charged molecules, as well as large molecules such as proteins and other charged polymers that are too fragile or sticky for standard chromatographic procedures.
Now, with the growing demand for bio-analytical analysis of new biological entities such as antibodies in pharmaceutical research and production, CE/MS is the ideal solution for scientists who want to achieve high sensitivity and resolution plus low solvent and sample consumption.
The only Single-Vendor Solution for Fully Integrated CE/MS
Agilent Technologies has maintained a more than 20-year commitment to developing instrumentation and solutions for CE. For combined CE and MS analysis, the Agilent 7100 CE system delivers best-in-class analytical performance and access to a broad selection of detectors, all in a complete solution that fully integrates with Agilent’s 6000 Series mass spectrometers, with full control of CE and MS from a single PC.
Industry-leading analysis capabilities for utmost sensitivity
The Agilent CE/MS interface uses a triple-tube sheath-liquid technique to provide a stable electrospray and controlled flow rate, even in unattended sequences. This technique additionally decouples chemistries required for ideal CE separation from the chemistry necessary for efficient MS ionisation of the target compound. This interface has provided years of robust service for scientists all over the world.
By coupling the Agilent 7100 CE system with an Agilent 6490 Triple Quadrupole MS or an Agilent 6550 iFunnel Q-TOF MS system, sensitivity can be enhanced easily by 5 to 10 fold versus a standard MS system.
Single software package for full control
Agilent MassHunter MS acquisition software completes the integration of the Agilent CE/MS solution. Version B.05.01 of the software has the capability to configure, control and support all Agilent HPLC instruments and Agilent 6000 Series MS systems coupled with the Agilent 7100 CE system, enabling automated and unattended routine analysis.
