analytica 2024: Pioneering sustainability and innovation in laboratory technology

From 9-12 April 2024, analytica, the world's premier trade fair for the laboratory industry, returns to Munich, offering a global platform for industry experts, exhibitors, and visitors to explore the latest breakthroughs in laboratory technology, analysis, and biotechnology. With a strong focus on sustainability and innovation, this edition of analytica promises to provide concrete insights into the future of laboratory practices.

A unique shop window to the world of scientific innovation

Across the five exhibition halls, over 1.000 leading exhibitors from the global laboratory industry will showcase a diverse array of cutting-edge technology and concepts, making analytica 2024 a unique window to the world of science. With numerous new products and technologies on display, the event caters to a wide range of industries, including medical/diagnostics, environmental, pharma/drug discovery, chemical, food analysis, forensics, bioinformatics, materials analysis, and more.

During analytica 2022, a total of 891 exhibitors from 39 countries presented their product innovations, including a number of world premieres, to some 26,573 visitors from all over the world. The influx of visitors, of whom almost 50% had come from abroad, filled the halls. After Germany, the top visitor countries were (in this order): Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, France, the Netherlands, Poland, the USA, Spain and Slovenia. The industry's key players meet regularly at analytica: 87% of its visitors hold decision-making positions.

“analytica 2022 was a complete success,” stated Dr Reinhard Pfeiffer, CEO of Messe München. “After a four-year break, the international laboratory industry was finally able to come together again here in Munich at their leading trade fair; there is no other event that provides such comprehensive and in-depth coverage of the entire laboratory value chain in research and industry.”

analytica conference, forums and event highlights

The analytica conference, hosted concurrently at the ICM, will encompass approximately 180 presentations, addressing various aspects of modern analysis. Renowned scientists and experts from across the globe will share valuable insights on analytics, quality control, diagnostics, measurement and testing technology, biotechnology, and life sciences. The event will also feature four analytica forums, providing practical best-practice lectures, with a particular focus on Occupational Safety and Security demonstrated through live presentations. Additionally, the fair aligns with the parallel ceramitec trade fair, creating synergies for both exhibitors and visitors.

Digitisation and AI in the laboratory

As digitisation continues to transform laboratories, analytica 2024 introduces the ‘Digital Transformation’ special exhibition. Visitors can experience the workings of a connected laboratory through practical use cases, with highlights including the autonomous laboratory robot Kevin, designed to handle routine tasks, enhancing efficiency and productivity.

Sustainability in the laboratory: The Green Lab revolution

A major focus of analytica 2024 is sustainability in the laboratory. Exhibitors will showcase energy-efficient devices, alternative solutions to scarce helium, and environmentally friendly consumables. Leading manufacturers will provide insights into the latest developments in refrigeration technology, offering green consultations for laboratories. The trend toward miniaturisation will also be explored, contributing to resource conservation and waste reduction.

Innovations in energy efficiency

Manufacturers such as Fryka, Huber, Lauda, and Liebherr will showcase advancements in refrigeration technology, featuring energy-efficient appliances with vacuum insulation, optimised sealing systems, and eco-friendly refrigerants. These innovations aim to provide sustainable cooling solutions, addressing the environmental impact associated with traditional lab equipment.

Green Lab consultation for energy optimisation

Exhibitor Waldner will offer a Green Lab consultation service, helping laboratories identify and address energy-intensive equipment. This service supports the transition toward a 'zero-carbon' environment, optimising energy usage in various laboratory equipment, from fume cupboards to centrifuges.

Sustainable chemicals and consumables

Exhibitors such as AppliChem, Carlo Erba, Merck, and Roth will guide visitors toward environmentally friendly alternatives for laboratory chemicals and consumables. Discussions with application specialists will explore ways to convert analysis methods to more sustainable chemicals, contributing to eco-friendly laboratory practices.

Alternatives to helium

With helium becoming scarcer and costlier, exhibitors like Agilent and Shimadzu will present alternatives to high-purity helium, ensuring the continuity of gas chromatography processes. The solutions include special gas filters and system settings allowing the use of less expensive helium with lower purity levels.

Bio-based plastics for laboratory utensils

Exhibitor Eppendorf introduces bio-based plastics for pipette tips, tubes, and PCR plates, offering sustainable alternatives and reducing the carbon footprint associated with laboratory utensils.

Waste reduction through miniaturisation

Embracing the trend of miniaturisation, analytical devices at the fair will significantly reduce resource consumption, enabling non-contact analysis without the need for chemicals. Repair and maintenance services will complement this trend, emphasising collaborative efforts for sustainability in laboratories.

Supporting programmes

Various forums as part of the supporting program will delve into day-to-day laboratory work, offering best-practice lectures and tips for daily lab operations. Experts will present solutions for digitalisation, innovative products in life sciences, biotechnology, and diagnostics, along with best practices for enhancing laboratory processes' efficiency.

The Finance Days will again offer information about financing for start-ups as well as small and medium-sized companies.

One ticket, two trade shows

analytica 2024 will take place at the same time as ceramitec, the international meeting place for the ceramics industry. As a result, the exhibitors will benefit from synergy effects. All exhibitor and visitor tickets for analytica allow entry to the parallel event.

analytica 2024 promises not only a comprehensive insight into the future of laboratory technology but also tangible impulses for sustainability and innovation in the industry. The event provides a unique opportunity for global exhibitors to showcase ground-breaking solutions that reduce energy consumption, optimise resource utilisation, and minimise waste, fostering a greener future for laboratories worldwide.

analytica app
