Mass spectrometry software 'to boost lipidomics studies'
Mar 05 2010
Entitled LipidView, the program is the first platform designed specifically to incorporate the analytical preciseness of mass spectrometry to characterise lipid molecules.
Head of bioanalytics at Zora Biosciences Dr Kim Ekroos stated that the technology enables researchers to test huge amounts of mass spectrometry information automatically.
She remarked: "The ability to identify new drug targets and better understand diseases at the lipid level will ultimately improve drug discovery and help create more effective treatments."
LipidView can standardise entries from a catalogue of over 40 lipid classes and a potential 23,000 species of the molecule.
It is hoped that developments in treatments for obesity and diabetes can be progressed through the use of the software.
Last month, a 3+D Scanner that enables rapid chemical analysis of surfaces was made available, with the invention designed to calculate the elements on fabrics, materials and electrical components.
