RF 1000™ Simple One-Handed Operation
Mar 30 2010
Heathrow Scientific has recently launched the new RF1000; the manual pipet filler of the family. This economical instrument uses a squeeze bulb to aspirate and dispense. “What is innovative about this product is its one-handed operation. You simply squeeze the rubber bulb with your palm and operate the aspirate/ dispense control with your thumb”, says Jim Dahl, Managing Director at Heathrow. The handle is ergonomically designed to fit a wide range of end-users, left or right handed. The instrument is incredibly light and easy to use.
The Rota-Filler 3000 pipette filler, manufactured by Heathrow Scientific, is the first to feature a nozzle that adjusts up to 15 from vertical. Dahl says that the feature was inspired by watching technicians work under fume hoods with small openings. “Getting your arm in there and manipulating a device can be pretty tough,” he says. “If you can adjust the angle of your pipette, you can ease the strain on your shoulder or elbow. Lab techs who do this work all day can appreciate the benefit of a pivoting nozzle.”
The contours of the Rota-Filler’s handle also make pipetting more comfortable by ensuring the unit rests lightly in the palm of the user’s hand. Dahl says that Heathrow has been investing heavily in industrial design, part of the company’s overall effort o market products with superior ergonomics.
The Rota-Filler 5000 builds upon the success of the Rota-Filler 3000. This pipet filler takes the patented adjustable nozzle feature one step further; the entire upper arm pivots o five different positions allowing for more versatility. Pete Hadjis, product developer at Heathrow and co-inventor of he instrument says “Making an instrument that is comfortable to hold and easy to work with has been our goal since day one.” The new Rota-Filler 5000 also features an LCD showing battery charge levels as well as speed settings and gravity mode. “We wanted to take speed sensitivity and control to the next level” says Jim Dahl.
