Collaboration to Enhance Research Infrastructure and Capabilities in Indonesia

Thermo Fisher and the National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia (BRIN) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The purpose of this agreement is to support and strengthen Indonesia's national research and innovation infrastructure and capacity. By establishing direct collaborations between high-level officials, this partnership aims to foster a closer relationship between the two organisations, opening up new opportunities for growth and development.

Thermo Fisher will utilise its expertise and wide range of offerings to assist BRIN in enhancing its research capabilities and capacities. Notably, the company has already supplied comprehensive solutions in advanced electron microscopy and single-use bioprocessing technology to BRIN's state-of-the-art facility in Cibinong, Java, Indonesia. In addition, tailored workshops and advanced training programs are being jointly developed to cater to BRIN's specific needs and requirements. This collaborative effort aims to empower BRIN with the necessary tools and knowledge to advance their research endeavours.

Thermo Fisher and BRIN will join forces to enhance and broaden BRIN's research capabilities, with a specific focus on material science research, clean energy development, and advancements in cell and gene therapy treatments, among other areas in the life sciences. Furthermore, the two organisations will collaborate closely in establishing a shared scientific panel responsible for the development and evaluation of research projects. This strategic partnership aims to expand the scientific network of local scientists, fostering collaboration on regional and global levels, and unlocking opportunities for mutual growth and innovation.

"The MoU between BRIN and Thermo Fisher would be a realisation of BRIN’s roles in supporting global collaboration to improve research capacities in terms of research infrastructures for Indonesian researchers", said Mr Yan Rianto, acting deputy for research and innovation infrastructure, BRIN.

“We look forward to advancing innovation in Indonesia’s research landscape together with BRIN,” said Sho-Wen Yeo, Vice President and General Manager of Southeast Asia and Taiwan at Thermo Fisher, “Collectively, our partnership can unlock new opportunities and drive research excellence in Indonesia and beyond.”
