Select Stands up as Best New Life Sciences Firm

Apr 18 2012

Pharmaceutical testing company Select Pharma Laboratories was established in Stirling in 2010. At the helm were three formidable forces in the life science sector, including healthcare specialist David Clapperton and quality control analyst Joanne Parkin, who between them boasted more than 45 years’ experience in the industry.

Trading from its base at Stirling Enterprise Park, the company quickly established itself as a high-calibre contract pharmaceutical testing laboratory, providing services to Scottish manufacturing firms as well as major international clients in the US, India and the Far East.

Well on track to meeting its second-year revenue forecast of £1 million, the company now employs 13 full-time staff and has picked up the Best New Life Sciences Company in Scotland award at the 2012 Scottish Enterprise Life Sciences Awards.

“It is a great honour for Select Pharma Laboratories to win this award,” said Steve Hastwell, Select’s Business Development Manager. “The management team and staff at Select have made tremendous efforts to establish the company in what remains an extremely competitive market, and this award is a clear recognition of the dedication and
professionalism of all involved over the last 18 months.

We have received excellent support from Scottish Enterprise and Stirling Enterprise Park and would like to take the opportunity to thank these organisations in particular as well as a wide selection of partners, suppliers and most importantly our customers.”

The company has revealed strong growth plans for the next few years, hoping to tap into an increased demand for testing linked to a rise in the number of generic drugs due to be released to the market.

“Despite the troubled economic times we feel that the demand for high quality services remains high,” continued  Steve. “However, this remains an extremely competitive environment and success is dependent on the ability to adapt very rapidly to changing customer demands, and provide the highest level of customer service. Select have  consistently shown commitment to these goals, and expect to build on that success for 2012.”
