Royal Microscopical Society Meetings

3rd Light Sheet Fluorescence Microscopy International Conference

31 August - 3 September 2016, Sheffield, UK

Light Sheet Fluorescence Microscopy (LSFM) has recently re-emerged with the implementation of fluorescence-based instruments and is on the verge of becoming a major and routine technique in such fields as Developmental Biology, Cell Biology, Systems Biology and Oncology.

Variants include Single Plane Illumination Microscopy (SPIM), Digitally Scanned Lightsheet Microscopy (DSLM), Ultramicroscopy, Objective-Coupled Planar Microscopy (OCPI), Oblique Plane Microscopy (OPM), Multidirectional SPIM (mSPIM), Bessel-Beam-based Lightsheet Microscopy, and Individual Molecule Localization SPIM (IML-SPIM). Since 2009, a broad community of scientists involved in the development of LSFM has gathered yearly to celebrate the LSFM International Workshop.

You can expect a broad scientific programme covering topics such as:

  • Lightsheet live imaging & applications
  • Lightsheet engineering
  • High-speed, high-resolution, low-light techniques
  • Ultramicroscopy & optical clearing
  • Image analysis & big data challenges
  • Multi-user & open source solutions

There are 6 workshops running on Wednesday 31 August prior to the start of the main conference. Find out more about what is on offer and register your interest in attending.

A number of topics have also been put forward for informal discussion during allocated 'Round Table Discussion' sessions at LSFM 2016. You can give your opinion on the proposed topics and suggest your own too.

ToScA 2016

06 September 2016 - 07 September 2016

Bath

This will be the 4th annual meeting addressing hard and soft tissue imaging, understanding materials in 3D, recent advances in hardware and software, and a broad range of applications in tomography. This international meeting consists of keynote speakers, student talks, student poster presentations and an image competition. The meeting provides opportunity for open discussions, networking with researchers and commercial industry as well as a platform to engage in collaborations.

ToScA Membership

We are pleased to announce that there will now be a joint RMS | ToScA membership available. You can register for the 2016 meeting and apply for this membership at the same time. Joint RMS | ToScA membership gives you all the benefits of RMS Membership with the additional benefits of a 10% discount on the ToScA meeting registration fees, being able to apply for ToScA bursaries and being able to attend the ToScA workshops for free.

Pre-conference workshops this year, which are open to all attendees for an extra fee will be on the following topics

Drishti

VG Studio MAX3.0

Avizo

Accepted Poster abstracts will be displayed during the meeting and entered into the ToScA 2016 poster competition and will be offered the chance to present a 'Lightning Talk' - giving a summary of your work in 90 seconds! Finalists will be invited to present their poster at the meeting wine reception, immediately before the gala dinner.
Also on display at the wine reception will be the shortlisted images of the ToScA Tomography Image Competition, showcasing your most beautiful tomograms.

Automated Microscopy 2016

07 September 2016

Oxford

Particles, Pores and Fractures

Scientific Organiser: James Strongman, Petrolab Ltd

This is a cross disciplinary meeting suitable for all experience levels, looking at current developments and application of automated microscopy technology to research and industry. There will be four main sessions:

Mining

Oil and Gas

Forensics

Construction/Concrete

The meeting will give a great chance to look over the hedge and see how the various industries are utilising the latest developments in microscopy and correlative workflows to provide more powerful datasets and deeper understanding of their samples. The cross disciplinary nature of the meeting will also hopefully simulate innovation across industries.
There will be an exhibition alongside the meeting. To enquire about exhibition space please contact Karina Lang

Early Bird Registration Deadline: Wednesday 17 August

This is a cross disciplinary meeting looking at new technology and developments in automated microscopy. The invited speakers have been selected from academia and industry covering four primary industries; Oil & Gas, Construction, Mining and Forensics. The speakers will cover a wide range of acquisition techniques, applications and workflows. This will hopefully give a valuable insight into how and why solutions have been developed and also spark innovation across these and other industries.

Some of the key areas will include;

Correlative microscopy bridging datasets from multiple sources and scales

Automated particle analysis and classification

Automated microscope control for increased throughput allowing process monitoring at a new level

Mobile and ruggedised systems for remote and on-site analysis and monitoring

2D & 3D imaging and modelling

The meeting will also have a number of industry exhibitors demonstrating their latest equipment and innovations.
