Celebrating 175 years in glass making
May 22 2012
Kavalierglass, a leading European producer and exporter of SIMAX brand glass products for laboratory, technical and household sectors, is celebrating 175 years in industry. Founded by František Kavalier in 1837, its location in Sazava, Czech Republic, is in a region of dense forests which originally played a vital role in providing the fuel required for melting materials. Since its beginnings the company has focused on production of glass with higher chemical resistance to suit the requirements of the laboratory and industrial sectors and during 1857 the first catalog of laboratory glass and tools was published. At this stage Kavalier Glassworks began exporting to neighboring countries even to some overseas regions.
During a reconstruction period in the early fifties the company’s new technology development centre, led by renowned glass technology expert Dr. M. B. Volf, was instrumental in the development of the SIAL and SIMAX borosilicate glass brands which firmly established the company’s success in manufacture of laboratory grade products. At present, Kavalierglass has comprehensive know-how at its disposal for glass melting technology and for automatically processed and hand-made primary products (glass tubes, molded and hollow household cooking products and goods for laboratories and technical use). The manufacturing processes include glass molding and blowing, mechanical finishing and cutting, and the production and assembly of devices and equipment.
The company holds quality management system certification in accordance with the international norm ISO 9001; it also reports efforts at gradually eliminating the impact of its industrial activities on the enviroment and participates in countryside protection initiatives.
