The Age of Nanotechnology...
Jun 24 2008
The Institute of Nanotechnology and The Institution of Engineering and Technology are delighted to announce this prestige launch lecture for their joint Micro and Nano Technology Network, to be given by Professor James Gimzewski at 6.30 pm, Tuesday 8th July, at The IET, Savoy Place, London.
Hear James Gimzewski, leading nanoscientist and Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at UCLA talk about the strongest material ever made, the reality of a space elevator, how the electronics industry kick-started the nanomedicine revolution, and the potential for programming single molecules. If that`s not enough diversity in one individual, he will also share with his audience some of his passion for the artistic interpretation of the nano world.
Dr. Gimzewski pioneered research on mechanical and electrical contacts with single atoms and molecules using Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) and was one of the first persons to image molecules with STM. He is the Director of the Nano & Pico Characterization Facility of the California Nanosystems Institute and has won several awards including the Feynman Prize in Nanotechnology and Institute of Physicsâ Duddell medal and prize.
Drinks available from 5.30 pm
