Expansion in Catalonia concentrates Process Solutions activities on one Site
Sep 23 2022
Aseptic process solutions specialist Telstar is in the process of expanding its Barcelona-based headquarters with the construction of three additional modules, the first phase scheduled to become operational during October 2022. Resulting in a 16,000m2 modern industrial site with 70% of the space intended for production plants, the project will bring the company’s complete activities for the development of integrated and complete solutions in the field of aseptic process manufacturing & installations together at a single location in Catalonia. Full completion of the expansion work for this global provider of complete solutions in process equipment, including turnkey projects and critical installations, is expected within the first half of 2023.
Located in the Orbital 40 Technology & Science Park in Terrassa (Barcelona), the new facilities will also host corporate services and the group’s R&D&I throughout the world. This will include innovation & product development, automatisation & GMP digitalisation services, robotic applications, retrofitting & upgrading services as well as customer support, including technical training centres and laboratories for the development and optimisation of client lyophilisation & sterilisation processes. Adapted to the specific conditions and requirements for environmental quality, manufacturing and qualification of equipment for the biopharmaceutical industry, the new premises will also house the development of vacuum applications for traditional industry and high-vacuum solutions in science and aerospace industries, as well as instrumentation for industrial and scientific research and development.
A period of solid growth between 1998 and 2008 set the basis of strong business development and quick expansion of the company’s integrated activities in Catalonia, which is currently distributed over a total of 8 buildings; this also led to the consolidation of Telstar’s brand internationally as a one-stop shop solution provider of specialised in sterile solutions for aseptic processes.
The move to group the activity centres at a single location for improved efficiency and increased flexibility in optimisation of production flow, will impact positively on delivery times, as well as improving the health and safety of workers derived from internal movement processes. The company’s metal workshop facilities will continue to operate in an autonomous building beside Telstar’s Logistic Centre located close to the headquarters in OB40 area. This warehouse has a storage capacity of 22,500 m3 and was created in 2019 to absorb additional production.
Certified to ISO 14001 standard, the company will continue the implementation of this environmental management system throughout the new complete site.
With a dedicated office specialising in engineering, construction, and consultancy in Madrid, Telstar follows a multi-site management model, closely collaborating with international technology centres for integrated projects of large volume or complexity. The activities in Barcelona coincide with a development stage tackling sustained organic growth and planned increased capacity at its three main manufacturing locations in Spain, the United Kingdom and China, projected to reach a total of 28,000m2 in 2024, effectively doubling the existing production space.
Part of the Azbil Group, Telstar, one of the 10 major suppliers to the pharmaceutical industry employing 1,000 people, operates in over a hundred countries and has 4 production plants, 7 technology centres and 11 consultancy and engineering services centres, along with commercial offices all over the world. The company invests 3% of its turnover in research, development and innovation of its technologies and equipment.
