Motic launches FS-Live Telepathology suite for remote frozen section
Oct 10 2019
Motic China Group Co, Ltd, a manufacturer of traditional light microscopes, microscope camera systems and all-in-one pathology solutions, has launched its newest digital scanning solution for routine medical use.
The FS-Live system is a real-time control and image streaming software suite that directly connects pathologists to a networked MoticEasyScan One or MoticEasyScan Pro for remote diagnosis. It brings the lab and operating room to the pathologist, improving caseload efficiency through eliminating hours of travel and onsite time for experts and allowing high-volume hospitals to consult with specialists anywhere, at any time.
Developed in conjunction with leading pathologists and cancer researchers in the United States, the system is optimised for remote use in Frozen Section diagnosis, FNA and cytology adequacy evaluation, ROSE, and live-sample tumour boards via features such as an industry breakthrough continuous auto-focus that completely eliminates the need for focus adjustment, z-stack snapshot for cytology, and gamma compensation to correct over-staining.
The FS-Live system helps address a critical and growing gap in pathologist supply worldwide. Only 3% of histopathology departments in the United Kingdom report that they are adequately staffed to meet diagnostic needs, according to the most recent Royal College of Pathologists Workplace Census. The Association of American Medical Colleges projected in 2018 that national shortages in physician supply relative to demand will increase through 2030 and beyond.
"With the FS-Live Suite, we can provide pathologists with a telepathology workflow improvement that immediately translates into the ability to read and diagnose more cases, for more patients, at more hospitals every year," said Nicholas Chan, Director of Digital Pathology at Motic.
