The School of Earth and Ocean Sciences at Cardiff University Selects a Suite of Light Microscopes for the Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories
Nov 10 2015
Mazurek Optical Services are pleased to announce they have recently installed a suite of light microscopes in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences at Cardiff University. The microscopes have already been used in the undergraduate teaching laboratories by students returning for the new academic year.
The School of Earth and Ocean Sciences at Cardiff University offers students a research-led experience across a wide raft of disciplines. They provide undergraduates with top class facilities that include dedicated IT labs, state-of-the-art analytical equipment and even their own research vessel. To coincide with the new academic year, the School went out to a national tender for new microscopes for their petrology teaching laboratories.
Mazurek Optical Services (MOS) were successful in winning the contract and have just completed the delivery and installation of fifty Microtec RM-1 transmitted and twenty three Dual LED Polarising Microscopes. Speaking of their purchasing decision, Deputy Head of School, Professor Wolfgang Maier, said the RM-1’s were clearly best value for money without compromising build quality and optical performance.
MOS also provided a free upgrade changing the adjustment thumb screws for the rotating stages and condensers to grub screws. This helped to make sure the instruments did not go out of alignment and become ‘student-proof!’ Commenting, MOS owner Stephen Mazurek said: “Our student-proofing of microscopes is something we have offered for some years and has been integral as showing how the company always tries to go the extra mile for its customers.”
