Roadmap could speed approval of latest microscopy techniques
Feb 08 2011
Put forth by the American College of Radiology and the American Roentgen Ray Society, the framework aims to overcome the significant delays to introduction that sometimes occur in the US.
This could lead to the latest microscopy techniques using X-rays - such as microtomography, which can produce a three-dimensional image of an object - being widely used more quickly.
Dr Richard Frank, vice-president of global clinical strategy and policy at General Electric, says: "We think there is a critical need for this kind of roadmap, given the current mismatch between the pace of advances and the time required to clear regulatory, reimbursement and adoption hurdles."
Published in the Journal of the American College of Radiology's February issue, the article is titled Evidence Requirements for Innovative Imaging Devices: From Concept to Adoption.
