NEW  HALO Fused-Core Penta-HILIC UHPLC columns for enhanced polar selectivity

Aug 01 2012

HALO Penta-HILIC is the latest addition to the original 2.7µm range of Fused-Core columns manufactured by Advanced Materials Technology. HALO columns feature a 0.5µm porous silica layer ‘fused’ onto a 1.7µm solid silica particle. The resulting columns provide faster separations and higher sample throughput, without compromising column efficiency, ruggedness and reliability. These Fused-Core particles generate significantly lower back pressure compared to other UHPLC columns, enabling them to be used with conventional HPLC as well as UHPLC equipment.

The proprietary penta-hydroxy containing ligand of this new HILIC phase creates a highly polar bonded stationary phase compatible with all typical HILIC operating conditions. The fast column equilibration obtained is especially useful for gradient separations.

HALO Penta-HILIC columns show excellent peak shapes for polar compounds containing a variety of functional groups:

  • Acids, bases and zwitterions
  • Strong and weak acids and bases
  • Peptides, sugars, nucleobases, nucleosides, nucleotides and derivatives

HALO 2.7µm columns are also available in eight other phases:

  • C18
  • C8
  • HILIC (unbonded silica)
  • RP-Amide
  • Phenyl-Hexyl
  • PFP
  • ES-CN
  • Peptide ES-C18 phases.

….. and now NEW HALO-5 5µm Fused-Core HPLC columns available in C18 and PFP phases

New HALO-5 5µm HPLC columns are based on the same proven Fused-Core particle technology as the original 2.7µm columns but have been developed by fusing a 0.6µm porous silica layer on to the surface of a 3.8µm solid core particle.

HALO-5 columns are initially available in C18 and PFP phases and have been specifically developed in order to provide improved HPLC performance when used with traditional HPLC equipment, as the lower back pressure of these columns is ideally suited to these instruments. It has been demonstrated that for a given operating pressure, HALO-5 columns deliver significantly higher efficiency than a column packed with 5µm totally porous particles.

Key features of HALO-5 columns include:

  • High efficiencies at fast flow rates
  • Low back pressure well suited to traditional HPLC instruments
  • C18 and PFP phases
  • Scalable from UHPLC separations developed on 2.7µm HALO columns
