Liquid Handling
New compact instrument advances genomics liquid handling
Jul 10 2024
SPT Labtech has expanded its nanolitre liquid handling portfolio with the launch of mosquito Gen3. This new model, the most compact and accessible in the mosquito range, offers next-generation sequencing (NGS) cost savings by making advanced miniaturisation technology more accessible to laboratories.
mosquito Gen3 provides precise multi-channel pipetting from 500 nL to 5 µL with rapid plate-to-plate motion across three available deck positions, all within a small benchtop footprint. By using individual pre-sterilised micropipettes, it eliminates the risk of cross-contamination, ensuring data and research integrity. Developed with leading scientists, mosquito's software enables quick implementation and sharing of methods, facilitating miniaturisation in novel application areas.
For laboratories needing higher throughput and greater walkaway capacity, mosquito HV genomics offers the same accuracy and volume range, with an additional two deck positions.
mosquito technology has revolutionised genomics workflows by reducing reagent consumption and scaling down reaction volumes without compromising data quality. Unlike traditional air displacement technology, mosquito’s true positive displacement technology maintains accuracy across all liquid classes and environmental conditions. This advancement has enabled the miniaturisation of over 40 NGS kits, including standards such as Illumina Nextera XT, Illumina DNA Prep, NEBNext® Ultra™ II, and Takara SMART-Seq chemistries.
“Automated liquid handling is crucial for genomics labs to meet modern research demands. One significant advantage of automation is the ability to miniaturise volumes, resulting in substantial cost savings and extended reach of precious samples and reagents. By expanding our range of low-volume liquid handlers, we have lowered the cost barrier to miniaturisation and now offer solutions tailored to laboratories of all sizes and needs,” said Kamila Koprowska, Product Manager, mosquito genomics at SPT Labtech.
