Turnkey Workstation Offers Variable Volume DNA Isolation
Jan 30 2013
Tecan and Promega have developed a turnkey workstation for fully automated extraction of gDNA from whole blood samples. Designed to meet the needs of biobanks and high throughput genomic laboratories, the Freedom EVO® ¬ HSM workstation provides reliable walkaway extraction of gDNA from large volume blood samples using Promega’s proven ReliaPrep™ Large Volume HT gDNA Isolation System.
The Freedom EVO - HSM workstation is designed to streamline biobanking workflows, offering intelligent one-tube gDNA extraction from up to 32 samples in less than four hours. The compact system is controlled by Tecan’s intuitive TouchTools™ touchscreen interface, and features pre-installed protocols that have been rigorously tested and verified by Promega. Using the platform’s liquid level detection function, the system is able to automatically calculate the reagent volumes for each sample, ensuring efficient walkaway extraction of high quality DNA from 1-10ml of blood and meeting the specific requirements of next generation sequencing methods.
Caroline Huber, Senior Market Manager at Tecan, commented: “We are very pleased to be working in close collaboration with Promega. Tecan’s expertise in laboratory automation is a great fit with Promega’s genomics tools and reagents, creating a truly unique solution for biobanking applications, backed by the technical support and experience of both companies.”
“This really is an ideal set up for laboratories,” added Promega’s Genomics Marketing Director Tim Sheehy. “As a reagent solutions provider, we know that sample requirements can change from one project to another. The efficiency and reliability of Tecan’s Freedom EVO system make it the ideal platform for integrating the ReliaPrep Large Volume HT gDNA Isolation System, offering customers the flexibility to handle a wide range of sample types and volumes.”
