Mixer Mills – the all-rounders for small quantities
Oct 07 2014
The Retsch mixer mills are versatile, compact benchtop models that are specifically designed for milling small amounts of sample. They mix and homogenise powders and suspensions in seconds and are ideally suited for cell disruption techniques.
MM400
This high-performance ball mill usually mills and homogenises powders and suspensions in only a few seconds, achieving a very fine end fineness in the region of 5 microns or larger. No matter whether bone or tissue samples, hair, tablets, wood, plastics, minerals, plant parts or chemicals the Retsch mixer mills are well proven ‘all-rounders’ for milling, mixing and homogenising of small volume samples. They achieve reproducible milling results down to 5 microns and process hard, medium-hard, brittle as well as soft, elastic or fibrous samples quickly and reliably. As well as being perfectly suitable for the cell disruption of biological tissues it is also well suited for DNA/RNA/protein isolation protocols. Due to its great versatility the MM400 is used in industries ranging from pharmaceuticals to biology to mineralogy, environment and plastics.
Cryomill – Ice-cold grinding
For soft, ductile and elastic materials, as well as for samples containing volatiles, the Retsch Cryomill is the ideal instrument for sample preparation. Cooling with liquid nitrogen down to -196oC ensures that the sample material is embrittled, improving the breaking properties which improves the particle size reduction of the sample material down to as small as 5 microns in some cases. Volatile substances of the sample are preserved and can be detected quantitatively and thermally induced decomposition is prevented. One particular advantage of the Retsch Cryomill is the high operating safety system since the user is at no time in contact with the liquid nitrogen.
