New Multi-Point Laser Sensor Introduced

Oct 07 2016

A new door opens in the field of industrial metrology with the introduction of the HL-D3 series multi-point laser sensor from Panasonic.  Products, such as electronic components, can now be measured with optimal speed and pinpoint accuracy to a 1µm measurement resolution.

The construction of the sensing element allows for the selection of individual or various measuring points along the width of the sensors measurement range. This flexibility offers several advantages over conventional 2D laser measurement systems meaning an increase in processing speed and the ability measure up to 10 individual points within the measurement range.

Multi-zone Beam Control (MZBC) gives the user the ability to adjust the measurement intensity at individual points where different materials make up the measurement area of a component. This allows stable sensing to be achieved over the whole measurement range and eliminates the chance of saturated or insufficient light intensity to affect the measurement accuracy.

HL-D3SMI configuration and monitoring software offers the user the ability to analyse the configuration of the sensor by displaying light intensity and displacement information in addition to the calculating the values of height, width, cross sectional area and the individual MSDS point values.  A 3D representation of the measured object can also be calculated from the measured data that is stored within the controller.

Applications vary considerably for the HL-D3 sensor and include profile measurement of SD Card and connector terminals in addition to alignment of connection pins on surface mount components.  Profile measurement and accurate confirmation of various products are also common from industries including automotive, semiconductor and electronics.
