Sample Preparation Solutions - Critical for Analytical

Oct 05 2021

Sample and mobile phase filtration are simple, economical practices that extend the life of consumable parts on an HPLC system, decrease system wear and tear, and preserve the integrity of the system. With a basic understanding of how proper filtration benefits various components of an HPLC system, and by selecting the proper filter, laboratories can avoid the time and expense of unexpected part repair and replacement.

But what is the right filter? When choosing the correct filter for the job, there are four different aspects that an analytical chemist must consider, which will directly impact the quality of results, the life of the equipment and, most importantly, the performance of the filter.

These are:

  • Is the application automated or manual?
  • What chemical compatibility is required?
  • What effective filtration area (EFA) is needed?
  • What pore-size rating is needed for sample clean-up?

Getting these right will ensure that the sample flows properly through the filter and that no extractables leech into your sample to be detected by the instrumentation. This is where Pall solutions can help.

To learn more about how choosing the right filter can reduce column blocking, reduce backpressure and help produce more reliable results, please click here. Whilst there, you can also request a sample and speak to a Pall specialist to see how we can help with your requirements.
