Live Webinar: How Automated Dispensing Paired with Advanced Robotics Increases Productivity, Safety and Accuracy in Your Lab
Apr 01 2020
Weighing is at the heart of nearly every analytical process, and it needs to be executed correctly, efficiently, and safely. Find out how Chronect Quantos dispensing enabled by state-of-the-art robotics can improve accuracy, reduce exposure risk, and save both time and money.
Chronect Quantos, a unique dispensing system developed by METTLER TOLEDO and Axel Semrau, integrates automated powder dosing into complex sample-preparation workflows. Pairing the proven Quantos dispensing system with a six-joint CHRONECT Bionic arm, Chronect Quantos can help you manage your most challenging dispensing operations.
Dispensing small, defined amounts of powder is an important step in most pharma R&D workflows. However, it is often considered a bottleneck when carried out manually—especially when the substances being handled are fine, flaky, static or hygroscopic. While autosamplers such as Quantos go a long way towards creating accuracy and safety in such workflows, the Chronect Quantos robotic system provides a link between the operator and the automated sample-preparation protocol by automating a series of additional work steps that previously required manual intervention.
The selection and placement of dosing heads is one such step. When using the Chronect Quantos system, the bionic arm is programmed to select one of up to 32 dosing heads positioned on a complementary robotic rack. It then places the dosing head onto the Quantos powder-dosing system, which is comprised of METTLER TOLEDO’s highly effective dosing module and an accurate Excellence balance.
Once the robotic arm places the target vial into the balance draft shield and onto the Quantos apparatus, the arm retracts, the draft shield closes, and the correct amount of powder is weighed-in automatically. Then, after weigh-in is complete and confirmed by the balance, the arm removes the dosing head and places it back onto the rack, readying itself to select any additional substances that are required.
As with the original Quantos and other autosamplers, Chronect Quantos removes operator interaction from time-consuming, repetitive, difficult or potentially toxic work steps. Performance is steady and accurate, and both error potential and waste are minimised. Operator contact with substances that can be spilled or go airborne is kept to an absolute minimum, increasing user safety when handling potent materials. Additionally, operators gain time for other value-added lab tasks.
Chronect Quantos can be used as part of a cumulative application or as an independent module.
