Ramos ? Respiration Activity Monitoring System

Apr 05 2006

RAMOS, from Labtex Ltd, is a ground-breaking new development in the field of biotechnology. For the first time this special measuring method allows optimization of bioprocesses by online-measurement of the respiration activities of cultures, including mammalian cells in shaking flask.

The purpose of the system is to allow real-time estimation of key processes variables such as OTR (Oxygen transfer rate) and RQ (Respiratory Quotient) etc.
Normally, a stirred tank fermenter system with exhaust gas analysis would be required to acquire this information. This can be an expensive, time consuming solution requiring a lot of space.
If this work can be done more rapidly, with less use of resources and at an earlier stage of process development the potential savings are easy to appreciate.

The major benefits of the RAMOS system are the compact set-up and the easy handling. The computer controlled device is fully automatic.
